Project Type: Data Mart Creation and Enterprise Reporting
Duration: 6 Months
Challenge
- Improve information delivery to the sales organization.
- Reduce man-hours spent in collecting, cleaning and synchronizing data from disparate systems.
- Provide a 360-degree view of sales and planning data.
- Combine data from fifteen heterogeneous data sources including EDW, mainframe, MS Access databases and Excel spreadsheets.
- Enable the sales department to create monthly production plans and manage dealer allocations.
- Implement customized vehicle and geographical hierarchies.
WIT’s Solution
WIT helped DaimlerChrysler Canada accomplish the above objectives by creating a departmental data mart. The project utilized the following Business Intelligence competencies:
- Dimensional data modeling and Business Objects Universe Design.
- Significant ETL development to align source data within a multi-use Data Mart.
- Custom development of reporting and analytical capability using the Business Objects Suite.
WIT’s consultants worked closely with DaimlerChrysler’s sales and IT departments to design a solution using a Joint Application Development methodology.
The resulting data mart combines data from fifteen different data sources and allows DaimlerChrysler’s sales team to load additional budget and dealer allocation data. This data is made available to the sales team, the production planning team and executive management.
Result
- Dramatic savings of time and effort necessary to analyze sales, production and third party data.
- Analysis is available at a more predictable timetable, thereby improving overall planning efforts.
- Centralization of all the sales and production data to get to one version of truth.
- Sales team is able to use trend analysis techniques to build improved production plans and dealer allocations.
- Other departments, e.g. Marketing and Chassis, within DaimlerChrysler Canada are able to leverage this analysis to improve their respective operations. The sales team is able to compare numbers with DaimlerChrysler corporate reporting.
- Business Users are able to perform “What If” analysis without taxing the IT resources.
