Background
The National Training Center (NTC), a joint-venture between the UAW and DaimlerChrysler, has the best Web Site in the business. That business is all about training UAW represented autoworkers for DaimlerChrysler Corporation. WIT has been a part of this winning effort since 1999 when the NTC moved from a “Tomorrow Town” Web site to the new information-portal interface.
In NTC’s inexhaustible desire to evolve and improve, WIT was asked to create new and better methods of online communication with tens of thousands of autoworkers.
WIT’s Solution Content Management tools equipped NTC communications managers with the ability to keep information up to date and interesting within a newly designed site architecture. The branding of the Web site confirmed NTC’s loyalty to the autoworkers through imagery and relevant stories from within DaimlerChrysler and abroad.
By instituting new web-based polls, NTC administrators queried web visitors on various topics of interest to get a feel for the pulse of the industry and the desires of the autoworkers themselves.
Business Value The new Web design showed dramatic improvement in web traffic – an increase of more than 200%. Built-in employee video-testimonials, syndicated auto and labor news, an auto-production ticker and hundreds of pages of useful information has helped the NTC Web site to become a significant and effective means of communicating with its audience.
Interactive games and Flash tours allow visitors to learn about the NTC and the services it provides to the autoworkers. With thousands of autoworkers taking advantage of the opportunity to interact with the NTC via the web, the NTC has been able to guide the future direction of the Web site based on autoworkers’ feedback and fulfill its promise to serve the UAW-DaimlerChrysler workers.
